Our work

Practical pathways to better rural health

From our flagship Balonne Rural Health Living Lab to prevention, workforce and wellbeing programs — everything we do is designed with communities, not for them.

Balonne Rural Health Living Lab

The Living Lab brings together community members, health professionals, service providers, researchers and decision-makers to better understand local challenges and co-design practical solutions — exploring access to primary care, workforce, prevention, service coordination and community participation in health planning.

Workforce

Health workforce support & mapping

Facilitating rural clinical placements and student training partnerships, collaborating with training organisations to grow the local workforce, and developing attraction-and-retention strategies tailored to rural settings.

Community

Community-led research & needs assessments

Local advisory groups and needs assessments ensure services are community-driven — addressing the health concerns most relevant to the community rather than transposing urban norms that are often ineffective in rural areas.

Prevention

Health education & prevention programs

Community workshops on chronic disease prevention, mental health and healthy living; culturally appropriate health education resources; and promotion of screening, early detection and self-management of common conditions.

Wellbeing

Wellbeing & social connection

Programs that reduce social isolation — men's groups, women's wellbeing circles, intergenerational projects — plus events and support for carers, older adults and other vulnerable groups.

Looking ahead

Growing with our communities

Our foundation is built to grow. As partnerships deepen and funding develops, we intend to expand into direct service delivery and shared community infrastructure.

  • Direct provision of primary health services (mobile clinics, visiting specialists, allied health)
  • Development of integrated community health hubs
  • Seed-funding small, local health & wellbeing initiatives
  • Community stories, case studies & a resource library
